iced out - farewell to the gallbladder

I'm amazed by my body's ability to grow things that don't belong in it.

I just spent an additional 5 hours at the hospital, getting more blood work, and having additional x-rays and another ultrasound. The verdict: the GB is iced out, and apparently the bling isn't agreeing with me. Too many gallstones to treat with non-operative procedures - the chance for reoccurance would be great. And apparently, my body can't pass the stones, which is why I was in so much pain. So, the GB has got to go.

I'm having a laparoscopic cholecystectomy to remove the offensive GB. See diagram below:

After-effects: loose stools. I've had bricks in my backyard for a while now, so that's not a problem. And honestly, considering I thought I was having a heart attack, I'm non-plussed about losing an organ. Almost suprisingly nonplussed. Hmm... It may be due to my delaying the fibroid surgery forever, only to find out how much blessed relief having the surgery subsequently offered. Or maybe because I'm hoping I can talk Dr. Skandalakis into sucking out some fat along with the GB?

I am concerned about the scar though. After all the work that Dr.s Becker (Ob-Gyn: Cesarean section) and Rubinowitz (Ob-Gyn: Hysteroscopy & Myomectomy for Fibroids) put into making sure my lower abdomen scars were minimized (and even though no one has ever seen them, they are gorgeous because they're completely undetectable), this threatens to put scars on my belly button AND possibly my sternum. Oh yeah, see the pic on the left is what happens if the surgery goes well. The pic on the right is what happens if it doesn't. Wow, I'se so vain about parts of my body that never see daylight...

Anyone had this done?
