dear uniqlo...come to GA, please!!!!
Ok, I have to admit something - I'm a little obsessive when it comes to the fashion thing.
I mean, I am a bargain hunter and I do love a sale, and I don't drop majores dólares on designer labels. I also don't spend nearly as much on clothes as most people think I do. In the realm of fashion, I'm pretty thrifty.
HOWEVER
When I find something I really like, or a store I really love - I tend to obsess about it until I can buy it, or shop in it. Obsess, yes. Like, I can't stop thinking about it. Hence, the gladiator shoes I posted previously. And a giraffe print blouse I found online at some weird outlet for grandma pants (don't ask). And the 5 pairs of capri pants hanging in my closet that I got before I decided that they did absolutely nothing for me...but I digress.
My latest obsession is Uniqlo.

I dropped by and spent about an hour in Uniqlo the last time I was in NY, which (damnit) isn't nearly long enough. But I did manage to get a white babydoll shirt that made the perfect nightie ($19.99) and a cashmere poet's sweater which I've worn so much it's beginning to fray ($39) - both of which were extremely well targeted purchases. But the thing is that I so <3 this store....and if you're wondering why......

The store's aesthetic is just neat. Yes, I lack a better word.
Have I mentioned that I love to stop? I mean, I LOVE to shop. Don't get me wrong - I don't love to buy (everything is not meant to be owned by me), but the whole process of picking things out, visualizing how it will look with pieces I already own, and how I can flip the item in ways unintended by the original clothing designer/manufacture - hmph, I just get a lil giddy. I like perusing items in multiple colors, determining which one works best with outfits, and even taking really basic items (a t-shirt, a cardigan, flat front khaki's, a basic dress shirt, etc.) and wearing them in outrageous colors, or really flat neutrals, in some way I haven't seen lately. And if this store isn't a shopper's wet dream, then I just don't know what is.....

They have basic items in better quality fabrics (cashmere and silk) than their competitors, in a whole assortment of colors, as well as truly unique pieces (the babydoll shirt, tuxedo jackets, shirtdresses with gored skirts, etc) that you just can't find elsewere. And on top of that, the prices aren't bad. They're really good, actually. As for quality, it's nice for the price. Seriously though - do I need to spend $200+ on a t-shirt? No - I can get them from Uniqlo!
Their website is a developer's wet dream too. I mean, it uses white space well, it presents a ton of graphics, yet isn't cluttered, the graphics are done cleanly. Alls Uniqlo needs to do is add a store catalogue back-end (ahem, hint-hint) and I'm good ;)
So this is my empassioned plea: Dear Uniqlo, I know you built the flagship in Soho, and are probably planning a NY expansion, but we're sorely lacking in anything remotely close to your store. I mean, there's H&M and Zara but they don't even come close. So when you open your next store, come to GA, please!!!!!

Black Love w/a Side of Ribs
I have a new favorite thing. I stumbled across this recipe for BBQ Spaghetti, and came across the cutest, cookingest couple. Down Home with the Neely's airs Saturdays at 11 a.m. Eastern and Pacific time on Food Network, and Pat & Gina are my two new favorite Food Network personalities. They seem so sweet, I could get a cavity watching the show - except when Gina puts Pat in check. Then I know they're "keeping it real", even as they dish up some good down-home cooking, and some wisdom about their relationship, their business and what keeps their extended family together.
aside:: why do I like it so much when Gina puts Pat in check, hm?
Anyway, the recipes (Spicy Fried Wings, Roasted Cornish Hen with Creamed Collard Greens, Memphis Style BBQ Ribs, et. al.) are serious business. But what keeps me tuning in is that these two seem to have a genuine admiration and adoration for each other that comes across in all their interactions. I don't need much more incentive than this to watch The Neelys. And I love black love, don't you?

tilt

I got a Tilt from AT&T a lil while ago. I love this lil phone.
First, let me say that while I'm a geek, I'm not a phone freak. Typically, I avoid the bleeding edge of tech, because it's expensive AND buggy (full of software bugs that are worked out later). My old phone, a Sony Ericsson W600i, served me well, but died a painful death from blunt force trauma (I dropped it one time too many).
But this fancy-shmancy phone is doing me right nice these days. My favorite features:
GPS with Live Search combo - lets me find & save my fave people & places to my contact list and get directions on the fly. Ok, so I'm late to the game - but I LOVE this feature.
Video with picture clarity - I get to watch American Idol and YouTube stupidity even when I'm stuck in the dentist's chair for 12+ hours.
Touchscreen - yah, it's iPhone-like navigation, without the iPhone-like price...for me that is, with the company discounts. The iPhone was not subject to company discounts - bastages!
Music & memory no iTunes, but Windows Media Player (booo....). However it serves its purpose, and I can add up to 32GB of memory (pricey, but avail). So I can store all the obscure neo-soul and R&B that my little heart can manage, and listen to it on my bluetooth headset. I'm no longer tethered to my (bastages!) PC at work that disallows MP3 players and won't allow me to update Windows Media. Yes! (still gotta work around some licensing issues....lol ;)
Yeah, it's also a PDA, with Window Mobile (Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc.). It's also a Wi-Fi for my laptopwith broadband capabilities, travel ready (for international use), and it's got a so-so camera. And IM (Y!, MSN and AOL). Push_To-Talk. And a QWERTY keyboard, both on/off the touchscreen. And it's got cool graphics for cool games, blah, blah blah.....
All in all, it's just neat. Take that monolithic and pricey iStuff! I don't need you and your expensive phone :P
....except iTunes. Me needs that....lol.

more favorite things: ej flavors and crunk + disorderly
Barring Reh Dogg releasing any new videos - there are a few things that help a beleaguered saga keep her sanity in an otherwise bananas corporate world:
ej flavors.com:: Did I mention that ej is the black blogfather of all black blogfathers? He's gotta be the hands-down internet authority on old school r & b music (well music in general...) and a complete sweetheart. ej also does old school radio blogs weekly, along with radio blogs of his favorite music. Hows-n-ever thats not the sole reason why he's my fave. ej's a real geek (unlike pseudo-geeks such as myself) and to my (limited) knowledge has introduced/upgraded dozens of newbie bloggers (like me) to tools like Radio Blogs, real servers/domains, bloglines, blogrolls, etc...etc..ad infinitum. Basically ej's a blog enabler, so you can probably attribute the prevalence of brakka people upgrading their blog game to him. And did I mention he's a sweetie? Ooops, I prolly shouldn't say that - don't want y'all random folks picking his brain with geeky Movable Type upgrade questions, or getting PO'ed that your fave old skool song from 2003 isn't on this week's arby....lmao.
crunk + disorderly:: I cannot get enough of this I swear. I'm tombout I literally HOLLA at my desk reading c+d. It's my morning, afternoon and evening humor fix. But the celebrity gossip that's featured while great (Fresh does her thing, no doubt) sometimes runs secondary to my fave part of c+d - it's the comments section that keeps me dying. And don't sleep on the vernacular - c+d will have me using phrases in real life, that are only known by true c+d'ers. For the stans, Dealers (for which I am currently shopping), WWDD (what would dmx do), :side-eyes:, dramatic cuntyness, donkey's most fascinating people, et. al. I am falling out jset-style and tossing glitter and Kanyekerchiefs to honor Fresh and all the c+d family for continually trying to destroy me.
That is all - Commence the clicking!

Other Bloggers: Oscar in Louisville
Remember I alluded to other blogs I love to read? Yeah, Oscar in Louisville's my blog bro-in-law (er, methinks) - since he was introduced to me by my blog hubby (hey DP, hey FW - girl, it's in name only, I got your back... TRUST ME!!!)
But Oscar's been doing his thing for a while, and I gotta admit, if you're looking for political commentary (or a spiritual word) he does both well. An excerpt:
When I talk to Republicans they often comment that I don't sound like a liberal, and they're right. When I talk to Democrats they often note that I don't sound like a liberal, and they're right. In fact, one of the very few things that my Democratic and Republican friends could agree upon is the fact that I think and sound much more like the people who constitute the Republican base than those who constitute the Democratic base. So why is it that I am a Democrat, and a partisan one at that? It's really not that complex:
NIGGER PLEASE
That NIGGER PLEASE line is a link to a story you really SHOULD know about, but you're going to have to check out Oscar's post to get to it. You can read Oscar's full post here.
I love the fact that he blogs (reads and reports) my mind, but in such an intellectual way, that it's uber-friggin sexy. Ah, I'm sucker for a man that can drop multi-syllabic politically charged gems in the same sentence as the F***-bomb. Oh, oops...I guess I shouldn't be lusting after my blog bro-in-law, 'specially since he's very spiritual...I'm SO bad. Just check him out already!
